Outside of the merit scholarships and awards granted by King’s College and any financial aid awarded to you by filing your FAFSA, the Office of Financial Aid encourages students to seek out private scholarships if needed.  

FAMILIES OF FREEDOM SCHOLARSHIP FUND 

Families of Freedom Scholarships are available for dependent children, spouses, or domestic partners of 9/11 victims, including airplane crew and passengers; World Trade Center and Pentagon workers and visitors; and relief workers, including firefighters, emergency medical personnel, and law enforcement personnel, that were involved in the rescue efforts. 

Children are eligible if they were born between September 11, 2001, and September 30, 2008, and enroll in a program of postsecondary study by age 24. Those children who turn 24 during their course of study must then continue their program of study uninterrupted, with the exception of summer vacations, in order to continue receiving scholarship assistance.

HORATIO ALGER SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

For students who are currently in their senior year at high school, the Horatio Alger Association seeks to assist student who have demonstrated integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity, strength of character, financial need, a good academic record, commitment to pursue a college education; and a desire to contribute to society. LIVE YOUR DREAM AWARD – SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL

Soroptimist International has invested nearly $3 million in education grants to nearly 1,800 women every year. The Live Your Dream Awards, offer three levels of cash awards. Eligible applicants can submit their application between August 1 and November 15. Ultimately, a Live Your Dream Awards finalist has the potential receive up to $16,000 to help offset tuition costs, purchase books, get transportation, or find reliable childcare so she can worry less about how to pay her bills and focus on reaching her dreams. 

THE LUZERNE FOUNDATION

Established in 1994, The Luzerne Foundation is a force for philanthropy in our community. To date, over $160 million in grants has been distributed to nonprofit organizations and over 360 funds have been created. With over $40 million in assets, The Foundation is positioned to do good today and tomorrow. 

THE MARINE CORPS SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION 

The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation provides scholarships to the children of Marines. Scholarship awards are $1,500, $2,500, $5,000, $7,500, and $10,000 per academic year, and the next round opens January 1. Students must apply directly to the Foundation and can review the eligibility requirements online. 

Monsignor Andrew J. McGowan Cornerstone Scholarship

The Monsignor Andrew J. McGowan Cornerstone Scholarship was established in 2007 by the non-profit community organizations that knew and experienced Msgr. McGowan’s unselfish support of his community. The Msgr. McGowan Cornerstone Scholarship Committee encourages students to live and practice their chosen profession within Northeastern Pennsylvania so as to make a lasting contribution for the improvement of their home community in much the same spirit as Monsignor McGowan. Recipient must have their legal residence within the nine (9) county territory of Northeastern Pennsylvania:

PASFAA SCHOLARSHIP

The Pennsylvania Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (PASFAA) is a dynamic, service association whose mission is to provide for the professional development of members and other constituencies; advocate for access to post-secondary education; and educate the public on financial aid and funding opportunities. 

The PASFAA Scholarship is made possible by the association and generous donations from members. PASFAA will award seven $1,000 scholarships to eligible students who apply by the deadline on May 1. 

THE ROY PIPER CHARITABLE TRUST

The Roy W. Piper Charitable Trust, Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania, offers annually renewable scholarships, beginning for academic year 2023-24. Fully completed applications will be accepted from high school seniors or those students already attending an accredited higher education institution. Principal preference will be given, but not limited to, to Wyoming, Lackawanna, and Luzerne County students. Scholarships are awarded based upon a combination of financial need, academic merit, community service, and extra-curricular activities, and are for use of education at an accredited higher education institution. Application packages can be obtained from the student’s high school guidance departments within the above counties or by email request to piperscholarship@frontier.com (please denote “Application request” in the subject line and note code “ST”). 

SCRANTON AREA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS

The Scranton Area Community Foundation administers over 85 scholarships. Some of the funds help students from a particular school or area; others provide financial assistance to those pursuing a specific field of study; and some assist students that are most in need. Students interested in one or more of our scholarships can create an account through our online portal and complete an eligibility questionnaire. After completing the questionnaire, the student will be directed to the scholarship application(s) they qualify for.

Tuition Funding Source (TFS) is a private website that provides free access to one of the largest scholarship databases, including information on financial aid programs and career assessment tools. 

LEHIGH VALLEY NETWORK SCHOLARSHIP

We are pleased to announce a King’s College scholarship program available to all LVHN colleagues and their dependents for our undergraduate programs.

$500 per academic year will be awarded to current LVHN employees and their dependents upon acceptance to King’s College and enrollment into a full-time undergraduate program.

In addition, application fees will be waived for current LVHN employees and their dependents when applying to King’s College for admission to any of their undergraduate or graduate degree programs.

Jackie Robinson Foundation

The Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholars receive college scholarships of up to $35,000 over four years and are financially sponsored to attend JRF‘s annual, four-day “Mentoring and Leadership Conference“ in New York City and other events throughout the year. Aside from generous financial support, Scholars benefit from a comprehensive, four-year program that includes career guidance, internship and permanent job placement, travel abroad, and leadership and practical life skills training.
