Oct. 31, 2013 - Dr. Brian Mangan, professor of environmental science/biology and director of the Environmental Program at King’s College, received a number of summer grants to support his ongoing research of the Susquehanna River.
Mangan received a total of $37,500 in grants and in-kind equipment; $12,500 from the Foundation for Pennsylvania Watersheds; $10,000 from the Degenstein Foundation; $5000 from PA Sea Grant, in partnership with the PA Fish and Boat Commission; and $10,000 in sampling equipment from KMS LLC, of Kingston.
Mangan’s research this summer focused on the crayfish and insects of the Susquehanna River and involved seven student interns. In particular, Mangan and his team were studying the distribution of the invasive rusty crayfish in the river.
Mangan is also the founder and director of the Susquehanna River Institute. He and his wife live in Nescopeck.
