What is the New Jersey State Tuition Match Program?
King’s College is excited to launch a new pilot scholarship program for New Jersey residents that makes a King’s College education the equivalent cost of that of New Jersey state tuition.
New Jersey undergraduate students who apply and are accepted to King’s College for the 2024-25 academic year will receive a competitive scholarship package (including a merit-based scholarship and institutional aid) that reduces tuition and fees to $17,239. New Jersey students will only be responsible for this cost, which is based on current in-state tuition at New Jersey’s flagship university. Any federal financial aid received by submitting your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) can be applied to the remaining balance.
What exactly does the New Jersey State Match cover?
With this program, eligible New Jersey students who have filed their FAFSA each year will receive funding from King’s College to cover the difference of the College’s published tuition and fees from that of New Jersey state institutions at the maximum equivalency of $17,239 (based on Rutgers University - New Brunswick School of Arts and Sciences published tuition for 2023-24). The student’s resulting balance can be covered by federal financial aid, including federal loans. Please note that the difference in tuition amount will be adjusted as new figures are published each academic year.
What Is NOT covered?
As the New Jersey State Match is only meant to cover the difference in tuition and fees, it does not cover costs for room and board or indirect costs like books and transportation.
What do I do if I’m interested in applying for the Match Program?
Interested students should apply for admission to King’s College (application opens August 1) and submit their FAFSA (application opens December 1), using King’s College code 003282. Eligible students are identified through their completed college application and FAFSA.
When students receive their Financial Aid Offer, King’s College institutional awards (which include a merit-based scholarship and King’s Grant in Aid) will be shown to cover the difference down to $17,239. If a student qualifies for any federal financial aid, including federal loans, this will also be shown and can be applied to the balance.
Is this offer renewable?
The program is offered to residents of New Jersey, as long as they remain eligible, for up to eight consecutive semesters of their undergraduate study or completion of their bachelor’s degree at King’s College, whichever comes first. If the student is enrolled in a program that has dual enrollment with another institution or is accelerated into a graduate program, the New Jersey State Match will only cover the difference in tuition and fees as part of their undergraduate studies at King’s College. This is a pilot program and only available to new first-year and transfer students from New Jersey starting in Fall 2024.
Do I need to repay the funding the Match Program provides?
Any tuition and fee balance that King’s College pays on the student’s behalf (after financial aid has been applied), does not need to be repaid to King’s College. Students will be responsible for repaying their Federal Direct Loans (and any other loans) according to the repayment terms.
Can I still receive the Match if there’s a break in my enrollment status?
If a student defers enrollment at any time for any length, they are no longer eligible for the New Jersey State Match. Students must remain consecutively enrolled at King’s College to remain in the program. If there are special circumstances, please contact the Office of Financial Aid.
How do I stay in the program?
Students must file a FAFSA each year to receive King’s College aid. Students must maintain a minimum 2.00 cumulative grade point average and be meeting Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements.
What if my parents move out of New Jersey while I’m enrolled in the program?
Inclusion in the program is determined during the student’s initial application and status as a resident of New Jersey. If a student’s parents move out of the state, their Financial Aid Offer will be impacted, and King’s College may not cover the difference in tuition and fees.
What else do I need to know?
Total funding that a student receives from all sources (e.g., financial aid, King’s College aid, private scholarships) cannot exceed their total cost of attendance. Cost of attendance is determined by their residence status. If living on campus, the cost of attendance includes tuition, fees, room, and board. If the student is a recipient of additional King's College academic scholarships after the initial award offer, King's College reserves the right to replace or reduce the Match grant accordingly. The New Jersey State Match is non-transferable and does not have cash value.
